The Kronos Robotics microcontrollers can be broken down into two classes. They are the Dios class and the Athena class. This page is dedicated to the Dios class microcontrollers. The Athena class information page can be found here.

Need more information the Dios? This is the place to go.  Every thing from language tutorials to hardware overviews.  The Links to the left will point you to technical data such as manuals and

Chip Features

The Dios Pro  is available in 40 pin and 28 pin form factors.  The only difference is the number of IO ports available.

  • 33 I/O ports  (22 for 28 pin chip)
  • 8 Analog to Digital Lines (5 for 28 pin Chip)
  • Program port may also be used for general I/O
  • 64k Program space (48K for user programs)
  • 256 Bytes EEprom space available for user
  • 2432 Other Ram bytes available
  • 2 Hardware pwm signal generators
  • Hardware interrupt driven (256 byte buffer) serial port with speeds up to 600k
  • Onboard SPI and I2c Hardware
  • Firmware upgradable for support of new features as they come available.
  • Fast,  The Dios microcontrollers are the fastest in the industry.
  • 40 Mhz Clock speed

Note that Kronos Robotics sells through hole versions of the chips. Other SMD version can be made available in special circumstances.

Language Features

The Dios chips use a version of basic that is similar to Visual Basic.  The Dios Compiler software is free and can be downloaded here.

  • Global and Local variables and constants.
  • Ability to have functions and libraries.
  • Unused library functions don't get loaded unless used
  • Remotely upgradable.  For enhancement and option upgrades.
  • In-line Assembly
  • Real Floating Point Variables
  • String Variables
  • Floating Point and Integer Arrays
  • Function OnIRQ structure for background processing.
  • Software I2c, SPI and 1Wire Commands and Functions
  • Language is upgradable.  We are always adding new commands.
  • Support for building your own Coprocessors
  • Direct Upgrade path from Athena.

Carrier Boards

4 Carrier boards are available for the Dios chips.  All Dios carrier boards offer the ability to swap the transmit program port via jumper.  They all include the required 10Mhz resonator and support components.  All the boards but the Dios Carrier 1 board are designed for the 40 pin DiosPro and have built in power regulators and RS232 drivers for programming.

All Carrier boards are sold in both kit and fully assembled forms.

Please note that carrier boards do not include microcontroller chips.  The chips are sold separately.
